On the 8th of June 2023, at approximately 1am, Constable Woods and Sergeant Fisher were on patrol in a marked police vehicle when they observed a vehicle bearing stolen registration plates, as they activated the emergency lights, the suspect vehicle failed to stop and accelerated away.

Police followed the vehicle into Ascot Place, Ascot, where the vehicle came to a stop.

Constable Woods exited the police vehicle and when he opened the driver’s door, the driver reversed at speed, dragging and trapping Constable Woods with his vehicle.

Constable Woods lost consciousness and stopped breathing; his colleagues performed First Aid until paramedics arrived.

He was conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital but passed away on Sunday 11th of June 2023 from his injuries.  

Constable Woods received a Police funeral with full honours on the 6th of July 2023 at Optus Stadium, Perth.  

Constable Woods leaves behind his wife Emily, parents Todd, Natalie and his two siblings Nathan and Brooke.
