On the 21st of March 1895, Constable Evans and Police Assistants Rocket and Jackey were attacked by a mob who had been killing cattle on Messrs Durack Bros. Stud Station. 

The mob were followed into thick bamboo scrub in the bed of the Ord River, Wyndham.

Police Assistant Rocket was leading the group and following tracks when he was speared in the body, he fired his rifle and fell shouting, "Look out, me speared".

Police Assistant Rocket died a short time later.   

Police Assistant Rocket was carried upriver and buried in a grave near the river.
