On 22nd of March 1973, Constable Pritchard, a Police motorcycle patrolman, was killed in a traffic crash in Scarborough.

Constable Pritchard was conducting speed checks on Scarborough Beach Road and signalled for a car to stop after it was detected speeding through the amphometer.  

As the car drove past, Constable Pritchard returned to his motorcycle, but as Constable Pritchard’s made a U Turn, his kick stand struck the road, throwing him off the motorcycle and into a light pole. 

Constable Pritchard died at the scene of the crash.
