On 1st of August 1846, Police Assistant Mogalwert's was murdered. He was sent by Inspector Hestor to arrest a local man named Nulgar, who was wanted for the alleged killing of a young girl.   

Police Assistant Mogalwert found Nulgar at an Aboriginal camp, but before he could be arrested, Nulgar speared Mogalwert to death.
