On Friday 26th of January 2001, 1st Class Constable Dewar was a passenger in Police aircraft POLAIR 64, when it crashed on the approach to Newman Airport.

The aircraft was returning from a call earlier that day to a reported assault in
Kiwirrikurra, near the Northern Territory border.  

1st Class Constable Dewar was given a Police funeral with full honours.
