On 8th of May 1974, Constable Tyrell, a Traffic officer, was in pursuit of a stolen truck on Carrington Street, Hamilton Hill, when his Police motorcycle was hit by a car traveling in the opposite direction.

Constable Tyrell suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Fremantle Hospital but died on the 9th of May 1974 from his injuries.
