Details:
On the 19th of October 1864, Inspector Panter, Constable Goldwyer and J.R Harding (Manager of the Settler’s Association), set off on an expedition from Beagle Bay.
On Sunday 13th November 1864, they camped near Lake Ingedama at La Grange, near Broome. As they slept, all three men were speared to death, their bodies and journals were recovered on the 4th of April 1865 and returned to Fremantle.
Inspector Panter was given a public funeral with full honours.
An obelisk was erected in the East Perth Cemetery and a memorial was erected in Fremantle.
