On the 15th of February 2007, at approximately 12.25am, Constable Murphy and his colleague had just attended a domestic incident on Whitfords Avenue, Craigie.

Whilst placing an offender into the Police van, Constable Murphy observed a vehicle unrelated to the incident, speeding and driving erratically.   

When Constable Murphy stepped out to signal the driver to stop, he was struck by the vehicle and died at the scene from his injuries.

Constable Murphy was given a Police funeral with full honours.
