On Friday 18th of February 2000, at approximately 11.15pm, Constable Loohuys and Constable Grant were responding to an urgent request for assistance at the Chidlow Tavern where a male was threatening patrons with a rifle.  

Whilst traveling to the scene on Great Eastern Highway, the Police vehicle has left
the road and collided with several trees, Constable Loohuys died due to the injuries sustained. 

Constable Loohuys was given a Police funeral with full honours.
