On the 5th of December 1969, Constable Heary, was stationed at the Fremantle Traffic Office when he was killed in a traffic crash.

Constable Heary was near the corner of High Road and Yampie Way, Willetton, when his police motorcycle collided with the rear corner of a bus travelling in the same direction.

Constable Heary died at the scene of the crash.
