On Friday 26th of January 2001, at approximately 10pm, Senior Constable Everett was the pilot of a Police aircraft POLAIR 64, when it crashed on its approach to Newman Airport.

The aircraft was returning from a call earlier that day to a reported assault in Kiwirrikurra, near the Northern Territory border.

Senior Constable Everett was given a Police funeral with full honours.
