On the 10th of September 1893, Constable Collins formed part of a small group sent to investigate cattle stealing complaint on the Durack property, Behn River, Lake Argyle.

The party were attacked by local men, Constable Collins was speared, and died the next day from his injuries, he was buried nearby.
