On the 14th of February 1977, Constable Brown, was seriously injured when returning to his station on his Police motorcycle, having completed a traffic escort from Kewdale to Capel. 

Two passing motorists found him lying Constable Brown the side of the Bussell Highway, just south of Bunbury. 

Constable Brown was admitted to Royal Perth Hospital, but died on the 15th of February 1977, after undergoing brain surgery due to the injuries caused by the crash.
