On Saturday 29th of May 1948, at about 5.30pm Constable Brooks was killed instantly when his Police motorcycle crashed into the rear of a stationary trucknear the corner of Canning Highway and Point Walter Road, Bicton.

Constable Brooks was riding east, when the woman crossed the road leading one child, with the other in a pram. Constable Brooks swerved but struck the pram a glancing blow, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle and collide with the parked truck.

Constable Brooks struck his head on the steel rim of the truck tray and died instantly.
