Cause of Death: Fell from his horse
Details:
On 10th of June 1895, Mounted Constable Blencowe was on morning patrol duty.
As he was returning to the stables via the Bazaar Terrace opposite the Esplanade Reserve, his horse suddenly shied and threw him, a colleague found him unconscious and conveyed him to the Colonial Hospital.
Constable Blencowe never regained consciousness and died from concussion of the brain at the Colonial Hospital at 4pm on 10th of June 1895.
At the time of the fall, Constable Blencowe had only been in the police force for fifteen months. Prior to coming to Western Australia, Constable Blencowe was a member of the West Camden Company of the New South Wales Cavalry, he was with a team from Australia which visited England and Ireland, taking part in military tournaments in London and Dublin, winning a gold medal.
Not long after returning from these military competitions Constable Blencowe came to Western Australia and entered the police force, first as a Constable, then as a Mounted Constable.
