On Thursday 6th of August 1998, at approximately 9.06pm, Constable Ball and his partner observed two juvenile offenders in a stolen motor vehicle.

As Constable Ball and his partner approached the stolen vehicle, the two juvenile offenders ran from the vehicle and were pursued on foot by both officers.

Constable Ball apprehended one of the offenders, but during the struggle, they fell onto Crawford Street, Cannington. Constable Ball was struck by a passing vehicle and died in early hours of 7th of August 1998 from the injuries he sustained. 

Constable Ball was given a Police funeral with full honours.   

Constable Ball leaves behind his wife Tracey and young daughter.
